What is Mission Prerna?

“Mission Prerna is an awareness campaign conducted by Akshaya Patra Foundation. It started on February 28, 2008. The mission was launched with the aim of reducing child malnutrition and increasing school enrollment among children who are not fed well at home.”

“The mission aims to reach out to 25 million children in the mission year (2008). It will be conducted for a mission period of five years and will end on February 28, 2013.”

“Prerna means “inspiration” in Hindi. The mission was started with inspiration from Akshaya Patra’s work amongst school children through its midday meal program.”

Akshaya Patra is a non-profit organization that was established in 2000. This mission is conducted by the foundation to spread awareness about child malnutrition throughout India. The mission started on February 28, 2008. The aim of this mission is to reduce malnutrition among children and also increase school enrollment.
